Emergency Readiness: Disasters, Decision, & Disabilities:
The Arc of Bismarck, AARP of ND, and the Protection & Advocacy Project are sponsoring a town hall meeting (pdf) in Bismarck the evening of April 8th to address emergency preparedness specific to individuals with disabilities. The event will be held in the Tom Baker meeting room of the City/County Building, 221 N. 5th Street, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. It will also be aired LIVE on Community Access Television (cable channel 12) and streamed LIVE at www.dakotamediaaccess.org. A panel of individuals will speak and then take questions. Viewers can phone in questions to 355-1312.
The Arc of Bismarck, AARP of ND, the Protection & Advocacy Project, and Self Advocacy Solutions of ND are also sponsoring a free workshop in Bismarck titled "Emergency Readiness: Training & Action Plans for Empowerment". It will be held at the Comfort Inn on April 9-10. Individuals will have the opportunity to learn about different types of emergency situations, develop a tailored action plan and checklist, and create a personal network of support with community resources. Speakers include Tom Szymanski (KXMB Meteorologist), Cheryl Underhill (Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health), Corinne Hofmann (P&A), and Ron Kunda (Bismarck Fire Department).
